紐西蘭遊學心得分享 -- 學員Steve

Review of New Zealand Study Group -- By Steve

This was the first I visited New Zealand, also I had never been abroad. In the beginning, when my father asked me whether I wanted to travel to New Zealand, I said that I didn’t really want to because I didn’t know where was worthy of visiting to and what there was to play in New Zealand. However, I thought New Zealand w⋯⋯as a very great country which had clean air and amazing wildlife after I had been there. Also, most people we met were kind.

We lived with home-stay families for these three weeks and the parents prepared our meals and picked us up between school and home. One thing that is different from Taiwan that impressed me was the houses in New Zealand were spacious and they had backyards. Another was that they drove on left side of the road and the driver’s seat was on right side of the car. The other was New Zealand’s natural environment. Snow in the mountains, the lush emerald-green plains, magnificent glacier, and so on……

During the first week, we visited many places in Christchurch learning about the native culture and characteristic. For example, we visited a museum, walked in a garden, and rowed in a small river. On the first Saturday, we went skiing and it’s interesting. It was not difficult as I thought. There was a coach teaching us how to walk with the skis, slide, stop, and turn. But we only ski on the basic ski trail. A few days later, we went to watch seals and whales. The whales were so large that I could barely see their whole body. Also, we visited a zoo to watch New Zealand’s unique animals. Then we went horse riding. I thought it was very hard to follow the rhythm of the horse up and down. The other city we visited was Hokitika. We lived in a motel there for one night and had barbeque for dinner. Here, we enjoyed the amazing scenery.

Happy moments always past fast. We went back to Taiwan with a reluctant mood. I think the travel make my English better. In the first week I had trouble understanding other people. But when we came back, I could understand most of what people were saying. If I have another chance to go to New Zealand, I want to see the real Kiwi fruit trees, the real glacier, and more things which Taiwan doesn’t have. And I hope I can ski on the senior ski trail.
